European backpacker hostel operator St Christopher’s Inns, owned by Beds and Bars, ends a fantastic year on a high after its newly refurbished site in London Bridge took first prize for Best UK Accommodation in the BETA British Youth Travel Awards 2017.
The awards ceremony took place on Thursday 7 December at the Hippodrome Casino in Leicester Square where St Christopher’s Inns also ranked as a finalist in the ‘Best Use of Social/Mobile Media’ category, coming in second place to Warner Bro’s Studio Tour London.
The number of entries in the 2017 competition grew by 41%, a competition record, making it even harder to place as a finalist this year. For St Christopher’s Inns to take the top spot in the Best Accommodation category is a massive achievement for the team, who have been working incredibly hard this past year to refurbish the London Bridge site completely to ensure it is the best it can be for guests.
To name just a few of the new additions to the hostel, the company has added another 175 beds to give 414 in total, as well as a full refurb of the sports bar downstairs and an interactive reception area. The new rooms have been given a fresh, contemporary design, including a higher ratio of en suite bathrooms.
Murray Roberts, Managing Director and Beds and Bars says “
It is not solely due to the fantastic renovations that steered St Christopher’s to win this prestigious award. It’s the customer care and service that the team at St Christopher’s Inns London Bridge provide. A prime example being the responses to the London Bridge attack earlier this year where St Christopher’s was unfortunately in the epicenter of the awful activity that happened that evening. The incredible team dealt with the situation and the after care of its customers fantastically, ensuring every guest was accounted for, safe and relocated to another St Christopher’s hostel in the city.
The renovation works at St Christopher’s Inns London Bridge is set to reach full completion in March. St Christopher’s are delighted not only to have achieved this award, but also hugely thankful and proud to have a great team behind them who made it all happen.
This news comes one day before Beds and Bars CEO Keith Knowles will be awarded his OBE on the 8th December for his services to the community and charity. With these major achievements, Beds and Bars are seeing 2017 out with a bang.
